Meeting Minutes: 05 May, 2003
Hello guys,
Our last EGSAC meeting of the academic year was held yesterday at noon
on
the 10th floor. Here's what went on:
1. Recent events - trips to see The Core and the EAPS spring picnic were
both smashing successes, with attendances of 25+ and 60+ respectively.
Thanks to our event organizers Lindsay (Core) and Dave (spring picnic).
2. Upcoming events - stay tuned for information on the summer EAPS-WHOI
softball picnic.
3. Budget - our fabulous treasurer Jenny says that we are in excellent
budgetary shape, so no worries there.
4. Student concerns document - several aspects of the student concerns
document were discussed in preparation for presentation to the faculty.
Since Lindsay has been keeping us posted via email about the status of
the
document, I won't elaborate further here, except to say a big and sincere
THANK YOU to everybody who participated in the creation of this important
statement by attending divisional student meetings, giving feedback and
input to the writers, writing statements on behalf of divisions, and
helping create and polish the final document. We estimate that over 100
people - about 3/4 of the student population in EAPS - were involved in
the process. A big thanks to everybody.
While we are on this subject - we all owe a HUGE thank-you to outgoing
EGSAC president Lindsay, who has put a great deal of time and effort into
getting the student concerns document put together. I think it's safe
to
say this project never would have succeeded without her efforts. Lindsay
was presented with a little token of our gratitude at the meeting
yesterday.
5. Elections - here's your 2003-2004 EGSAC Committee:
President - Maureen Long
Vice President - Ben Crosby
Secretary - Rob Korty
Treasurer - still open
Sports Czar - Dave Stuebe (pending his acceptance of the nomination!)
Peer Czars - Kate Ruhl and Blair Schoene
EAPS GSC Representative - Jenny Matzel
Student Representative to the Graduate Committee - Melanie Fewings
So as you can see, we are still in need of a treasurer. Please consider
helping out with this - we'd love to get a new treasurer this year while
Jenny is still around to help somebody learn the ropes. If you'd like
to
take this position, or nominate a friend (or enemy) who you think would
be
good at it, PLEASE let me know.
Cheers,
Maureen
