Meeting Minutes: 12Nov, 2004

Last friday we had our monthly EGSAC meeting below are the minutes of what
we discussed.

1)Kate suggested having an AGU EAPS pub night in San Francisco. We are
going to try and have this on Wednesday night. It will probably be at a
pub close to the convention center between 5-7ish. We are going to try and
get a list of EAPS alumn and invite them as well. This is not meant to
compete with the EAPS AGU dinner which is much fancier than what we are
thinking for our pub night. Ben Crosby is looking into possible pubs in
San Fran that would host us for a fee of ~$200.

2) We discussed the possibility of making an EAPS photo calendar with
photos used in the slide show a couple of weeks ago. Kyle will find out
the price of having the calendars made at Kinkos. Chris Studnicki-Gizbert
is going to be in charge of picking which pictures end up in the calendar.
The thought was that we could either sell or give away these calendars at
the EAPS holiday party.

3) The EAPS ski trip will be coming up soon after the new year. To get the
ball rolling with planning Angela Zalucha volunteered to head the effort
and Chris will be reserving the MIT cabin for us.

4) Kate Ruhl reported on the success of the off-campus trip to see The
Incredibles, which she insured us was a great movie.

5) Here is what Mike our EAPS rep to the GSC has to say about the
grad student surveys that are out right now

"---------
You may access the graduate student survey using your MIT web
certificate from:

http://web.mit.edu/surveys/grad/
----------

The GSC worked to add several sections of questions
to the survey and believe that the administration
will take responses very seriously given the cost
they've invested in making sure the survey is
handled properly. All graduate students are asked
to fill the survey out. It can be done over multiple
sittings as your answers are attached to your ID
via web certificates. (You need certificates to
fill the survey out.) The total time required is
from 25-35 minutes. As a bonus, one out of every
four surveys completed gets a pair of movie
tickets.

-Mike"

6) Melanie has sent out the list of mentor mentee pairings after much work
by her to set up great pairings.

7) A note about a future peer hour: Chris and Blair are going to host a
special peer hour on the friday before AGU. The theme will be a photo
scavenger hunt in which they will have a photo from each floor at peer
hour and the person who can guess the most floors correctly will get some
sort of prize (to be announced later).

8) Finally, we had a vote on what design to but on the new EGSAC t-shirts
and the winning t-shirt was Absolute Ida, a play on the absolute vodka
ads, well send out a copy of the design before we have it printed so
people can comment if there are major complaints.

That's it for now folks,
Kyle
