About ERL
The
Earth Resources Laboratory (ERL), founded in 1982, is an applied geophysics
research laboratory focusing on applications in energy, the environment,
and the characterization of the Earth’s upper crust. Activities include
theoretical, experimental, and observational research in geophysical imaging,
geological process modeling, and the interactions between rock pore systems
and migrating fluids. ERL has a staff of about 35, including faculty, research
scientists, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students. In addition, visiting
faculty and researchers from universities and industry frequently participate
in ERL research and educational activities. The Lab has access to large
scale computational resources (ACES)
and also houses an Ultrasonic/rock properties. Research projects are in
equal measure by the energy industry and government grants.
