Introduction
The Ar Laboratory at MIT's Department of Earth, Atmospheric
and Planetary Sciences (EAPS) provides facilities for measurements using the 40Ar/39Ar
technique to investigators in both the academic and commercial fields. The
laboratory can measure 40Ar/39Ar ages using various techniques
(described below) on a wide range of materials over a wide range of ages and
sample sizes. Data quality is continually monitored by frequent calibrations
against argon in air and the use of a number of well-established standards.
Investigators are provided with reports of the results with varying degrees
of detail depending on their needs.
The laboratory is open to both students and professionals who may wish to participate in the analyses of their samples. We can also provide information and help with the use of the 40Ar/39Ar technique in various situations.
