Over recent years, our understanding of protoplanetary disc (PPD) dynamics have changed dramatically. It is now believed that MHD processes are playing a very important role in the formation and evolution of these objects. While a direct measurement of magnetic fields in PPDs is still lacking, I will show in this seminar that several observed features can easily be explained as a natural consequence of magnetised discs. In this context, I will revisit the problems of grain transport and accumulation, disc clearing and planet migration.
EAPS Department Lecture Series
Weekly talks aimed to bring together the entire EAPS community, given by leading thinkers in the areas of geology, geophysics, geobiology, geochemistry, atmospheric science, oceanography, climatology, and planetary science. Runs concurrently with class 12.S501.
