Portraits of Kristin Bergmann and William Frank

Professors Kristin Bergmann and William Frank have been promoted to Associate Professor.

The Executive Committee of the Corporation has approved the promotions of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS) Professors Kristin Bergmann and William Frank to Associate Professor. They go into effect July 1 2025.

Kristin Bergmann is a geologist studying the connection between the Earth’s environment and its inhabitants using methods of sedimentology, stratigraphy, geochemistry, and geobiology. She employs theory, experimental lab work and field studies to examine marine rock records through carbonate sedimentary rocks and fossils to determine how the ocean’s chemistry and climate influenced the evolution of complex life. She joined the EAPS faculty in 2015.

William Frank is the Victor P. Starr Career Development Professor of Geophysics. His research investigates the physical mechanisms that control deformation within the Earth’s crust. By examining fault instabilities within the Earth, he hopes to improve estimates of earthquake hazards. Using a multidisciplinary approach, he combines seismological techniques with geodetic observations to learn more about the evolution of faulting processes in time and space, and how the Earth responds to tectonic, volcanic and anthropogenic forcings. He joined the EAPS faculty in 2020.
