Date: Monday, September 22, 2025 Time: 12:00 - 1:00pm Location: Virtual Only“West Antarctic Ice Sheet readvance in the Holocene”
It has long been assumed that after the end of the last ice age the West Antarctic Ice Sheet continually retreated until it reached its current size. In this talk I will describe a decade of work by myself and many others suggesting that the ice sheet instead shrank to a size significantly smaller than today, then regrew to its current size. I will discuss what we know about the timing of this retreat and readvance, argue that determining its cause is important for understanding the climate sensitivity of these regions, and discuss ideas for future work to achieve this.
PAOC Colloquium —
Interdisciplinary seminar series that brings together the whole PAOC (Program in Atmospheres, Oceans, and Climate) community. Seminar topics include all research concerning the physics, chemistry, and biology of the atmospheres, oceans and climate, as well as talks about societal impacts of climatic processes.
